I have always been fascinated with the idea that there is an inner greatness to a being, and only every once in a while is that greatness allowed to manifest itself in a being.

The thought that someone else may know and understand that greatness, and even lead an individual to access or destroy it haunts me further.

As an artist, I feel sometimes that the creations I make on paper are not from me at all, but are beings of their own, and they enter into my mind and hand, and dictate just where the pencil falls. I feel as though I am merely a vehicle for some other intangible entity to whom I play host.

That is why I chose to illustrate the moment in which Claudio encounters Ambellina, and she reveals to him his identity as the Crowing.
